Rich and Yoko

I am a little emotionally wiped out by this remix for Yoko Ono's song "Wouldnit (I'm A Star)." The fabulous Rich Morel (I blogged about his amazing song "Shoegazer Disco" in an earlier post, here) has worked his arresting minor-key, melancholy/heart-wrenching dance magic on this tragic track by Yoko. And because of it, Rich's remix has reached number one on the Billboard Dance Chart. No stranger to this position, Rich has previously occupied the number one spot with remixes for Pet Shop Boys, Seal, Cyndi Lauper, Depeche Mode, New Order, Vivian Green, and t.A.T.u.

Morel has reviously remixed three other tracks for Yoko Ono that also went to number one on the Billboard Dance Chart. But with this track, Yoko is now the oldest person, at 77, to reach the number one spot.

Although the beautiful and starkly animated video was originally created for Yoko's legendary song "Walking On Thin Ice" (John Lennon was shot coming home from laying down guitar tracks for, and mixing, "Walking On Thin Ice"), the images seem very appropriate for "Wouldnit (I'm A Star)." The story takes on a profound sense with the young girl becoming the heorine Yoko sings of in the song. After rescuing the rabbit who dies in the forest, the young girl inhales the atoms that once animated the creature. What a beautiful, transcendent, cosmic view of life.
