Currently listening to...

... two songs by a new artist, Laura Welsh. Her voice and songs are riveting. Wowsa.

And although her voice has that trendy, female R&B singer sound, there is something in her arrangements and sense of how she is presenting her material that elevates what I am hearing. It is a little "alternative" sounding...

Not a lot of information about her yet... and these are the only two songs so far. No word of an official release.

First is "45," a song that references forty-five minutes to midnight, until "another day."

UPDATE 9/19/12: Laura Welsh has removed this song from her official YouTube channel.

And now here is "Ghosts," a wrenching song with an enigmatic, powerful video taken from a short film by Ben Briand .

UPDATE 9/19/12: Laura Welsh has removed this song from her official YouTube channel.  This link is via Muzu.

UPDATE: 11/21/15: Laura Welsh has re-recorded "Ghosts" with additional orchestration for her first release, "Soft Control." Video from her official YouTube channel.

It's moot at this point, but the source material for the original "Ghosts" video is a seven minute film, "Some Static Started" by Australian filmmaker Briand. It has a fantastic, spooky, David-Lynch-ian quality.
