She inspired him to write an iconic lyric that conjures up any beautiful girl who could grace a 1950s movie screen, along with James Dean. Thank you SO much for sharing that marvelous anecdote.

Best,
JEFJeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03054844603488738852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5665811301880655838.post-8725570417704145742023-04-12T11:36:44.267-07:002023-04-12T11:36:44.267-07:00Hi Jef,

He sat next to my late mother in law, engaged in a conversation and he requested her help in compiling a new song that he was struggling with lyrics.
She was wearing blue jeans and he commented that she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He wanted a date.
As she left the cemetery he called out “Blue Jean, Baby Queen, prettiest girl I have ever seen”

Recently, we met with her cousins and we were talking about my late mother in laws early years - they said that she was a fantastically good looking girl and every man paid her attention, she used to get lots of attention at the Ilford Palais and in Dagenham where she lived.
At that point one of them said, do you remember how David Essex was keen on her and write about her in that song?
He wanted to have a relationship but she saw him a couple of times after that but nothing came of it…

Perhaps some truth to it?

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5665811301880655838.post-55501802527295632322019-02-21T13:37:59.568-08:002019-02-21T13:37:59.568-08:00Hi Anonymous,

But I don't associate Natalie Wood with a "queen" title and I feel she did not do roles that were overtly titillating and sexually charged like Norma JEAN/Marilyn Monroe "shaking" on the movie screen.

Dean and Monroe have come to be such ICONIC figures from the period.

Of course the beauty of something like this is that one can insert any figure that feels correct.

Thanks so much for the comment and question!
JEFJeffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03054844603488738852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5665811301880655838.post-47391700607878560602019-02-20T12:23:30.586-08:002019-02-20T12:23:30.586-08:00Given the reference to James Dean, I thought "...Given the reference to James Dean, I thought "blue jean baby queen" was a reference to Natalie Wood in 'Rebel Without A Cause'.
