BEAUTY: Clothing--Ann Demeulemeester

It seems that several designers took chances and did things out of their usual oeuvre for this year's Paris Fashion Week. Ann Demeulemeester's Spring Summer '13 collection saw her adding a lot of color to her otherwise traditionally neutral color palette. Rich plums, pumpkins, golds, and blueberries seemed more autumnal than spring-like. But I am not complaining. The hues were gorgeous, especially executed in cuts that invoked the traditional Japanese kimono. Side-tied kimono tops peeked out from under jackets while their sash ties flowed romantically behind. Kimono-like overcoats mixed gracefully with Edwardian style frockcoats. And trousers sported a floral print reminiscent of toile. All of this combined to bring to mind the Chinoiserie or Japonica tradition in Europe.
