Winter At The Cabin 2020

I'll be spending the holidays at the cabin, as usual--if you need me, call the general store in town and have Sam drive his pick up out to get me because there's no phone at the cabin and no cell reception.

I came across your blog while looking for paintings by artist Kurt Solmssen. My parents had a cabin on Vaughn Bay; the subject of 80% of all of Kurts' paintings. Kurt and his family would come from PA every summer to his grandparents cabin and along with other locals and families, from CA and OR, who spent summers with their grandparents - we spent a blissfull 3 months each summer with no boundaries - swimming, campfires on the beach, waterskiing, boating (and yes the yellow row boat is an institution in and of itself). Kurt's oldest brother would read Tolstoy or another classic to us on hot summer days, although we were probably too young to understand, we lay quietly during reading time in the green grass looking up at the blue sky listening. At days end we would all grab our sleeping bags and sleep under the stars together in someone's front yard. While we all went on to live our lives in many different cities, we all to this day return to Vaughn with our children, so they too might experience the sheer freedom we so enjoyed as children.
