BEAUTY: Clothing--Burberry

This is the only '14-'15 Fall Winter collection I have seen from London Collections: Men that really says "autumn" and "winter" as I think of it. The venerable house of Burberry is known for its outerwear and this collection is a gorgeous, rich, sumptuous festival of layers: scarves, jackets, coats, wraps, and blankets, all in warming, autumnal tones that reflect the richness of the season.

Christopher Bailey says that a quartet of artists were his inspiration for this collection which clearly starts in autumn. With a nod to the legendary artist quartier of Montmartre, models wore silk souvenir scarves printed with maps of Paris streets, the kind one can buy at any souvenir kiosk along the Seine. This plan de Paris charmingly made its way onto shirts and coats as well. And what would a reference to Montmartre be without an image of Sacré-Cœur, here woven into a sweater.

As the season turns colder, we see bags made of Persian carpets, large scale leaf patterns, and Navajo blankets thrown over the shoulders of generously proportioned blanket coats. It's all so beautifully comforting and cozy looking, yet sophisticated with the tailoring of the jackets and coats.
