BEAUTY: Sculpture--Tom Fruin
Sculptor and installation artist Tom Fruin has created a site specific piece of art that sits on top of a building at 20 Jay Street, near the East River waterfront in Brooklyn. It is a riff on the classic water towers seen on almost every building in New York, but this one is made of steel and 1,000 salvaged pieces of colored plexiglass gathered from all over NYC. In the daytime, the sun streams through the plexiglass, but at night a special light show designed by Ryan Holsopple illuminates it from within. The 25' x 10' piece, which can also be seen from FDR Drive and from both the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, will be on display until June of 2013!
