BEAUTY: Clothing--James Long

The London Collections: Men was full of fascinating shows this year and James Long showed a collection with a subtle, curious inspiration. At first glance, Long's Fall-Winter offering for '13-'14 is chock full of dense, unobtrusive patterns (something the designer is known for) in browns, mustards, rusts, and dirt, just begging to be studied closer. These doodly, intricate designs on knitwear could possibly be mistaken for Missoni, but when one factors in the rubberized trousers with huge elastic bands, rubberized jackets, and rubberized shirts, one would be wrong!

Then the muse shows herself... a motif of "Pink Flamingoes" and sweaters with the visage of Divine! But that doesn't solve anything, it only makes the mystery deepen. Is this Long's take on what the Baltimore citizens of John Waters' films wore in the late 70s and early 80s? The muddy color scheme (a more sophisticated take on 70s mustard and avocado) could have something to do with it...
