"Place of Dreams" by Mazisi Kunene
In honor of National Poetry Month, here is the stunning "Place of Dreams" by Mazisi Kunene:
Place of Dreams
There is a place
Where the dream is dreaming us,
We who are the shepherds of the stars.
It stands towering as tall as the mountains
Spreading its fire over the sun
Until when we take one great stride
We speed with the eagle on our journey.
It is the eagle that plays its wings on our paths,
Wakening another blind dream.
Together with other generations hereafter
They shall dream them like us.
When they wake on their journeys they will say:
Someone, somewhere, is dreaming us, in the ruins.
