BEAUTY: Shoes--Amber Ambrose Aurèle
Regular readers know that twice a year I post photos and thoughts about the men's clothing collections from several very unique fashion designers who show at Milan and Paris. So it is unusual for me to post about women's clothing. However, I just came across the work of Amber Ambrose Aurèle and it is stunning. Her shoe creations are incredible wearable works of sculpture. She is from The Netherlands and it only makes sense that one of her collections is an homage to the De Stijl school of art and architecture including the work of painter Piet Mondrian...

BEAUTY: Interiors--The Loft
The concept of a pop-up, whether a restaurant, food stand, book store, or clothing store, is not new. But there does seem to be a new-ish twist: pop-up stores selling home goods from a completely furnished and styled home. The Loft in Amsterdam, helmed by the creative team of Floris Koch, Kassandra Schreuder, and Maarten Van Huijstee outfits spaces--lofts--that look like someone lives there but in fact, everything there is available for purchase...as individual objects, or as an entire house full of furniture, lighting, rugs, objects, and housewares. I really love the mix they have gathered for their newest incarnation.
And here is their previous pop-up from mid-2014... as equally fascinating and expertly curated.

BEAUTY: Photography--Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse
Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse, an historical consultant in Amsterdam, was at a flea market in 2007 when she came across a box of old negatives of scenes from World War II. She recognized some of the locales and set out to photograph the exact same spots to compare. Much like what San Francisco-based photographer Shawn Clover is doing with shots of the 1906 earthquake (previously here), Teeuwisse digitally melds the two time streams to create a startling--and in this case heart-wrenching--unique perspective.

This negative...
...plus this current photo in Cherbourg...
...creates this.
Here are more from her chilling "Ghosts of War" series.
