ROAD TRIP! Where are you staying on your vacation? Part One

Photographic duo OSKAR (Thi-Thi & Arnaud) have created a delightful portrait series called The Globetrotter Club: people ready to take off on a road trip. Perfect time of year.

BEAUTY: CG--Chris LaBrooy

These supremely imaginative, mind-bending, physics-bending graphic images by Chris LaBrooy are stimulating a deep part of my brain. I have my own strange, object-centered daydreams in which common items morph and take on arcane shapes and uses... and these floating, box-y cars are hitting me just right. Simply incredible...

LaBrooy's images remind me of the work of Matthew Barney--they both like inventing new objects out of old ones.

BEAUTY: Art--Vladimir Nikolic

Serbian conceptual artist Vladimir Nikolic has hilariously paired photos of automobiles with images of himself making the same perceived face (it's all in the brilliant and subtle placement of his lips and eyebrows). It's clever because I have always felt that cars have faces. I do not anthropomorphize everything (I have a friend who sees faces in almost every inanimate object) but it is quite easy to see that cars have faces: the headlights are clearly eyes and the grill is the mouth.
