BEAUTY: Painting--Andrew Sedgwick Guth

Andrew Sedgwick Guth's style is so open and honest and approachable, from his simply sketched figures to his fun, bright color palette, to his use of mixed materials like found ephemera and beeswax!

Top to bottom: Acadia I (tell me all your stories); after, after (oh, winter); I didn't change, I became (a thousand voices); poets (there's a blue light, there's a feeling); stories of gods and heroes (spring); the things i loved (summer); watching boats, planes, and pretty white clouds (the song begins); watching the stars collide; where we used to go when all was wrong (lilies and jewels); your blue waves in the night (come back, come back)

BEAUTY: Painting--Andre Serfontein

With yesterday's posting of Travis Collinson's exaggerated figures in mind (seen here), let's look at the paintings of Cape Town artist Andre Serfontein. Instead of exaggerating the eyes like Collinson, he paints his models with sensual, elongated necks.

BEAUTY: Painting--Paul Schulenburg

Artist Paul Schulenburg paints fishermen and dock laborers from a voyeuristic vantage point. He celebrates not only the dignity of the intense labor required for the fishing industry, but also the beauty of the male form at work and at rest in these simple but majestic homoerotic images.
