BEAUTY: Painting--Miho Ichise
Painter Miho Ichise has a fasciation with light and shadow and the way they behave and appear. Her breathtaking Impressionistic images of sunshine dappling through tree branches or glinting off the surface of water capture the immediacy and ephemerality of it all ... ichi go ichi e...

BEAUTY: Painting--Jake Fischer
The work of artist Jake Fischer is astonishing. His skill in portraying the way artificial light behaves in darkness is incredible. He shows a realistic element but in a gorgeous, painterly way. And the resulting mood is mysterious, impenetrable.

BEAUTY: Painting For Winter--Jeremy Miranda
I have been a fan of Jeremy Miranda's wonderful, impressionist work for a while (previously here). There is so much depth and life in his technique. And these sparkling, twinkling portraits of Christmas trees show that off...

BEAUTY: Cermaics--Döppel Studio
Döppel Studio, the design duo of Lionel Dinis Salazar and Jonathan Omar are showing their "Néophore" project at the Paris art space ToolsGalerie until January 11, 2025.
ToolsGalerie says Döppel Studio "is interested in the shapes of antique jars and amphorae and their reinterpretation as luminous containers through the use of terracotta and a specific enamel. The light source becomes the essence of the reflection: like a material to be transported, it guides the shape of the container, inspires new uses and new objects. This work of contrast between light (here Neon) and terracotta leads Doppel Studio to collaborate with Aliénor Martineau of Alma Mater, a ceramist specializing in the manufacture of enamel based on natural minerals, to design a custom enamel that is sensitive to light. Between amphora, lamp and container, the exhibition invites you to discover a collection of atypical pieces that highlights through the object, as much the use and measurement systems of the first civilizations, as the cult of Prometheus (fire) and obviously, light, crossing or overflowing, as a material in its own right."

BEAUTY: Light Art--Tim Etchell
Light artist Tim Etchell has been making some wonderful pieces for public spaces over the last several years.
His website observes, "Etchells’ neon and LED pieces often draw on his broader fascinations as an artist, writer and performance maker, exploring contradictory aspects of language – the speed, clarity and vividness with which it communicates narrative, image and ideas, and at the same time its amazing propensity to create a rich field of uncertainty and ambiguity.
Through simple phrases spelt out in neon, LED and other media, Etchells strives to create miniature narratives, moments of confusion, awkwardness, reflection and intimacy in public and gallery settings. Encountering the neon sign works, in the streets of a city or in the space of a white cube gallery, the viewer becomes implicated in a situation that’s not fully revealed, or a linguistic formulation that generates confusion or ambiguity. As often in Etchells’ work, in the neons the missing parts of the picture are as important as the elements that are present. Invoking a story, or projecting an idea out-of-context, the work invites us in, but into what exactly we can’t be sure."
Indeed, these pieces are poignant, thought-provoking, and direct the viewer to a place of self-reflection where one is encouraged to ponder one's place in the world and our journey through time here on this planet. Like poetry, it is the brevity of these pieces that leaves room for such thoughts.
