BEAUTY: Clothing--Dsquared2
Well, London was a bust, Pitti flew by, and here we are at Milano Moda Uomo already. And the Caten twins of Dsquared2 laid it all out for their Spring Summer '25 show. Both twins are gay and they have fetishized their menswear for quite a while now, playing with "macho" tropes (think The Village People: construction worker, soldier, cop, etc.). To be fair, they often clothe their female models for their womenswear collections in equivalent outfits from the same demographic.
But for this collection, they went full on to gay subculture, although in a pop art/Dsquared2 sort of way, borrowing BDSM leather harnesses, chains, strapping, latex rubber shirts, Tom of Finland leather boots, and playing into more of those fetishized male archetypes like wrestler, football player, redneck...with some 1980s rocker rent boy thrown in for good measure. One tee shirt spelled it out for those who couldn't get the hint: "HOMOCORE." The Catens always show their menswear with womenswear but this co-ed show seemed to be a misstep with the women in g-strings and flounces feeling unnecessary and a little silly, given all the man-on-man references.
