"Golden Air" by Sun's Signature

And speaking of Cocteau Twins (yesterday's post here), ex-CT lead singer/angel Elizabeth Fraser and her life/musical partner Damon Reece have begun a musical project called Sun's Signature. They have released their first single, a stunning journey called "Golden Air"...and it is as heavenly and ethereal and psychedelic and floaty as we would hope for. Just gorgeous! They have an EP coming out on June 18th, 2022! I am so excited to hear her again after all these years...

Their label, Partisan records, says:

Sun’s Signature is the current project from vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and percussionist Damon Reece. Life and musical partners, their eponymous debut EP will be released in 2022 through Partisan Records. Highly evolved, yet simultaneously primal - it’s an utterly original, compelling and genre-defying collection of songs that has developed through an Alice in Wonderland journey through life and music.

Elizabeth and Damon’s early careers in some of the UK’s most heralded musical groups are well documented. Since those days, along with raising their (now grown and independent) family, they have been involved in a multitude of artistically varied projects.

The band has no website but Elizabeth and Damon each have their own Instagram pages.

Two angels sing together...I never thought I would hear them on the same track, but here are Jónsi (previously here and here) and the legendary Elizabeth Fraser (previously here) singing "Cannibal" from Jónsi's forthcoming album "Shiver."

"Ivo" by Cocteau Twins

It's hard to believe that this track is 30 years old. I remember when this came out...a friend of mine had a seaside cabin in the Northern California coastal area of Mendocino, and we went up to spend a weekend. We left the Bay Area rather late at night, and as we drove through the redwoods, I lay in the backseat, watching the towering trees pass us in the spray of lights from the front of the car. She put in a cassette of "Treasure" by Cocteau Twins, and of course the album starts with this incredibly unique, shimmering, breathtaking track called "Ivo." Rocking from side to side on the twisting road in my half-dream of darkness and trees, the song washed over me. Where did this miraculous sound come from, we all wondered then--not pop, not rock, not anything familiar.

And I think we still wonder...

Their former label 4AD says, "When they first emerged in the early 80s, the Cocteau Twins were compared most often to Siouxsie & The Banshees, but in truth they never sounded like anyone – or anything – else. Taken together, their nine albums, and sixteen EPs/singles, sound less like a band and more like an element of nature."

Yes, an element of nature... yes.

...the heart-stopping, beautiful "This Love" by Craig Armstrong featuring the heavenly vocals of Cocteau Twins vocalist Elizabeth Fraser. I adore the Cocteau Twins but this is possibly the most gorgeous song I have ever heard her sing. It literally makes me swoon...
