"The Paradigm" by Lil' Yachty
I can assure you that Lil' Yachty is normally nowhere to be found in my music collection, but wow, this song created during his psychedelic-rock period is amazing. "The Paradigm" was heard over the closing credits of the film "Leave The World Behind."
Meet me at the bridge past nine
Turn off our phones if you need some downtime
Kick off your shoes and unwind
Relax your brain as you enter the paradigm
You are not dealin' with the typical
One of a kind
Super individual
I see the light
Forget about bills, ridin' them hills, dippin' in cheap thrills
Love in the mill, posin' for stills, poppin' them pills (ooh)
Doublin' down, devil's in town, it's tricklin' down
Ah
I am also loving this track "the BLACK seminole." from his release "Let's Start Here."
Sex symbol, the Black Seminole
A sex symbol, the Black Seminole
African Rambo with more ammo
Can't be escaped, I'm on every channel
What's wrong? What's wrong, Mr. Man?
Your eyes are low
And you're walking with both hands on your head
His response, he's on a clean, clean high
Both feet up on the ground
But his head's way, way, way up in the sky
The Black Seminole, a head general
This deep connection, a large interval
A black man with mouths to feed
Embracing equality throughout greed
No time to joke around, the kid is now a man
And the sadness is filled with remarkable sounds
This part, I've seen in my dreams
Love is not a lie, it just feels like a Tarantino movie scene
Exactly

BEAUTY: Illustration--Matt Lyon
The colorful, graphic work of Matt Lyon reminds me so much of that time in the 60s-70s when artist like Peter Max and Heinz Edelmann (who created the animation style for The Beatles film "Yellow Submarine") reigned. I love Lyon's use of color and pattern in the intricate images below. I want the ninth image down as a wallpaper!

"Golden Air" by Sun's Signature
And speaking of Cocteau Twins (yesterday's post here), ex-CT lead singer/angel Elizabeth Fraser and her life/musical partner Damon Reece have begun a musical project called Sun's Signature. They have released their first single, a stunning journey called "Golden Air"...and it is as heavenly and ethereal and psychedelic and floaty as we would hope for. Just gorgeous! They have an EP coming out on June 18th, 2022! I am so excited to hear her again after all these years...
Their label, Partisan records, says:
Sun’s Signature is the current project from vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and percussionist Damon Reece. Life and musical partners, their eponymous debut EP will be released in 2022 through Partisan Records. Highly evolved, yet simultaneously primal - it’s an utterly original, compelling and genre-defying collection of songs that has developed through an Alice in Wonderland journey through life and music.
Elizabeth and Damon’s early careers in some of the UK’s most heralded musical groups are well documented. Since those days, along with raising their (now grown and independent) family, they have been involved in a multitude of artistically varied projects.

"Snake Charmer" by Eagle Eye Williamson
One-man-band Eagle Eye Williamson released this amazing track five years ago and it has lost none of its punch. "Snake Charmer" is a fantastic, dark, psychedelic groove that seems to evoke sounds and feelings from rock n' roll past, but is resolutely itself.
I don’t know where I’m going
I don’t know where I’ve been
I’ve been told there’s a place
That no one has ever seen
If your travels take you there
You’ll never come back again
Stars have all been delayed
Causing your course to stray
What was once dark and grey
Has become bright blue and green
When the machine becomes you
And you become a dream
Now you finally closed the door
Start trying to find your way home
And you look all around
Don’t know which way to go

"What Have You Got Toulouse?"--A 1970-1971 Calendar by Hallmark
I came across this relic on The Peculiar Manicule, a great site that features illustration from the 60s and 70s. This is the look of things as I was growing up, on television, in magazines, in films, on tee shirts... and this 1970-1971 16-month calendar from Hallmark (yes, Hallmark!) called "What Have You Got Toulouse?" reminds me so much of certain Saturday afternoon cartoons, The Beatles' psychedelic "Yellow Submarine," the comedy show "Laugh In," and especially Saul Bass' legendary short film "Why Man Creates," previously here!

"We Never Had A Chance" by The Brian Jonestown Massacre
I am spacing out to this incredible psychedelic dream of a song, "We Never Had A Chance" by Anton Newcombe's band The Brian Jonestown Massacre. From the eponymous album released this year, 2019. I love this sound.

BEAUTY: Photography--Terri Loewenthal
The photography of Northern California artist Terri Loewnethal reminds me of the classic 70s film "Zabriskie Point" by Antonioni (previously here)--the different views of California landscapes superimposed on top of one another, all drenched in acid Kool-Aid colors. Indeed, she has titled this series "Psychscapes." "I was referring to these images as psychedelic even before I made them," she says. "To have a psychedelic experience is to free your mind from its normal constraints. When I had the idea for these images, I was able to shift the colors of the natural world in my mind."
