BEAUTY: Painting--Robert Ginder
There is something both humorous and touching about the way artist Robert Ginder transforms ordinary and humble California bungalow homes into saintly venerated objects . The fact that the background to these images is gold leaf elevates them to the status of a religious icon. The juxtaposition is cheeky but the sense is not...I can imagine someone keeping one of these around to remind them of a precious home that belonged to a beloved grandparent, a home in which they spent many joyous hours filled with love and life.

BEAUTY: Egg Art For Easter--Elisa Sheehan
I previously celebrated the lovely eggshell art of Elisa Sheehan here, and she has been hard at work creating more beautiful little boxes and larger-scaled pieces featuring her designs. She makes gorgeous art from eggshells based on the Japanese art of kintsugi (previously here) where a piece of broken pottery is fixed using gold. This highlights the crack and the repair, giving the object a sense of history, of use, and of extra value. Sheehan does the same with eggshells which of course must be broken to be used. In her statement about her kintsugi eggs, she says, "I’ve always loved the Japanese art of 'kintsugi' wherein broken pottery is repaired with gold and rather than trying to disguise the break or flaw, it is highlighted and therefore elevated to a status of beauty. Its age is celebrated, its history is seen, its flaws are revered. I think it’s a good way to think about ourselves, others and our relationships as we age - not to try to look like our former, younger selves but to embrace our 'breaks and flaws' and to honor them and see the beauty in them."

Artistic Easter Eggs
Craft blogger Allison Murray at Dream A Little Bigger has posted some artistic, beautiful alternatives to traditional dyed Easter eggs. Hurry, Easter is tomorrow!
The Galaxy Easter Egg is pretty amazing, and easy to do with a base of black paint and a spattering of space-y nebula colors on top (gold makes gas clouds, white makes stars).
Gold Leaf Easter Eggs are fairly easy as well. You can buy leaf and sizing (glue) at any craft store.
And finally, a bit of watercolor or watered-down food coloring creates amorphous blobs which you can then outline, in a very loose artistic style, with a black fine-line marker to create the impression of petals and leaves on these Watercolor Easter Eggs.
For tutorials on each egg, click on either the name of the egg or a photo.
