BEAUTY: Painting--David Wilson

I am loving the light reflected on the rain-slicked streets in David Wilson's paintings. The way he catches headlights and streetlights and neon signs is enchanting...

"Last Light" by Colin Rich

Award-winning cinematographer and director Colin Rich, who created visuals for M83 (one of my favorite bands, previously here, here, and here) when they performed at the Hollywood Bowl in 2013, has released a beautiful new time-lapse film, "Last Light." The film features the track Holograms by M83 which is taken from their soundtrack to the film "You & The Night."

Colin Rich talks about his short film:

"'Last Light' is the story of Los Angeles bearing the brunt of a tempest and the clarity that comes after the storm.
See Los Angeles in rare form.
I spent the better part of two years trying to link together a continuity of weather and light, which proved to be by far the most challenging films I have done to date. For those of you who have lived in Los Angeles, you know that rain, for the most part, is few and far between. Fueled by recent storms, I was able to capture the city in a seldom seen light; torrential rain and dark stormy skies."

It's beautiful, Colin.

It's Raining

We've had quite a season of rain here in Northern California. Our near-decade long drought is over officially over but there have been mud slides and floods...and it's still raining...

BEAUTY: Painting--Tibor Nagy

There is something about cityscapes that lend themselves to being seen through rain and Tibor Nagy's evocative, wistful, lonely scenes of city streets and traffic seem to dissolve like tissue paper.

BEAUTY: Painting--Kailiang Yang

Kailiang Yang was born in China but lives and works in Germany which is clearly reflected in his work. He paints watery, soaked scenes of a hauntingly empty Eastern Europe that are at once immediate yet seemingly full of nostalgia, and delicately layered with memories.

BEAUTY: Painting--Karen Woods

Karen Woods has created some stunning paintings for her series "Driving Rain." Yes, these near-photo-realist images are oil on canvas and they are gorgeous. Their relatively small finished size, 10" x 15" makes them precious little windows onto a drenched world. She has perfectly captured mist from traffic, water in large pools on or rain splattering against the windshield. I can almost hear the rain hitting the car...
