BEAUTY: Painting--Aron Wiesenfeld

I have been appreciating the unsettling work of painter Aron Wiesenfeld for some time now and can't believe I have not shared him with you yet. I love his eerie narratives of a single person in a lone desolate spot, probably in some form of peril ... ... his unease with tunnels and what they mean psychologically is a recurring motif, as is the imagery of people (often adolescents or children) in snow wearing clothing clearly not meant for cold weather. They work like film stills, asking more questions about the spooky circumstances we are seeing than they answer.

BEAUTY: Dioramas for Halloween--ChimericalReveries

These spectacularly realized dioramas by Andy Acres of ChimericalReveries are perfectly spooky for Halloween. The precision of these eerie tableaux need to be studied so, like any good piece of narrative art, the story arc can assemble itself in the mind of the viewer.

Top to bottom: Derelict Farmhouse; East London, 1880 - That carriage doesn't belong on these streets; Haunted Mansion Conservatory; Mistley Hall; Oh, Mother; Taken Back in 1884; The Other Women - A Filthy Shade of Hollywood; The Witch, banished in 1861; title unknown

BEAUTY: Photography for Halloween--Darla Teagarden

For Halloween, here is the witchly, ghostly, spooky photographic work of Darla Teagarden.

"Darla makes her portraits (primarily self portraits, unless otherwise stated) by crafting small theatrical vignettes out of wood, paper, chalk , plaster and projection, creating in camera effects. These serve abstractly as her as means for communication, protection, ritual and a sense of place. Her images are either faceless or in character. She uses symbolic gestures as the narrative communicates common experience and unity."

Top to bottom: Easter; Ghosts; Hidden Room Theatre; Sweetie; The Summoning; Vigil for the Harvest Suitors; Vigil for the Homestead Grave; Vigil for the Suffering Heart; WINTER Hex; Witch Wife
