BEAUTY: Interior--Steve Jones
Pacific City is a new oceanside village in Huntington Beach in Southern California that will include retail, office, and residential spaces. Since Pacific City is currently under construction, the only structure on the site is the modular trailer leasing office... but Steve Jones of bettershelter was brought in to eliminate that ugly-trailer vibe of temporary leasing offices. He created a marvelous space that feels like a funky beach cottage adorned with near-kitschy vintage lighting and fun retro objects and art that relate to Southern California, surfing, and Huntington Beach. I love how Jones took a commercial building and turned it into a fun get-away spot, warming and softening the interior with sisal flooring, Persian rugs, and comfy seating!

BEAUTY: Man--Rainer Andreesen
I am back from my time on Maui and waiting for me in my mail pile was the newest autumn catalog from The Field, and once again the gorgeous, stirring Rainer Andreesen (previously here and here...please DO look) is their featured model. Lordy, this man... I think my blood pressure just went up...

We've got 5-10 years...
IMPORTANT VIEWING.
David Roberts is a staff writer at Grist.org. In "Climate Change is Simple" recorded on April 16, 2012 at TEDxTheEvergreenStateCollege, he describes the causes and effects of climate change in blunt, plain terms.
Is it too late?

BEAUTY: Installations--Claire Morgan
The astonishing work of Claire Morgan is... well, just astonishing. Incorporating taxidermied animals and other natural elements such as leaves, dandelion seeds, flies, and food, her geometrical compositions of torn plastic invade the natural world. Inferences can be made about the ephemeral nature of life, the inevitability of death, the arbitrary nature of the animal world, and the horrible beauty... or beautiful horror... of it all. Not only are the concepts for each piece a literal marvel, but so is the execution: how much patience does it require to string fluffy, easy-to-blow-away dandelion seeds onto nylon line--a truck load... or a boat load? Astonishing...
