BEAUTY: Ceramics--Godeleine de Rosamel

The sweet, whimsical ceramic work of Godeleine de Rosamel is enchanting. I love how her figures are unidentifiable mash-ups of animals and humans and nature spirits. I love even more that she has pieces of driftwood perched on their heads. At first I took these for stylized horns, but the more I saw of her figures, I wondered about that assumption.

de Rosamel's lumbering, lovable animals remind me of a poem I wrote many years ago.

Dense Beasts

I know of a place
that’s much darker,
where I can hear them
talking to each other
from the forest.
I crouch by the trees
and listen to them
jabber.
I can hear their
innocence
in the noises they make.
I can hear it
in their chirping,
in their grunting,
in their sigh
and the beasts
from the forest say,
“It’s OK.
We know what’s wrong.”

Through the trees
I see their wide button eyes
shining in the dark.
I can feel
their warm fur.
I hear them breathing
and chattering,
they don’t mean harm.
Sitting on branches,
sleeping in dirt,
the beasts say,
“It’s OK.
We know what’s going on.
We’ll stay here.”

The Cloud of Luster Wedding Chapel

The Cloud of Luster Wedding Chapel by KTXarchiLAB is a new addition to the La-Vienne Wedding Ceremony Hall located in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The gorgeous glass-sided, all white, organically-shaped structure seems to float on a pool of water. And I love that the aisle is a floor lighted from below that is reminiscent of the floor from Dave Bowman's final room in "2001: A Space Odyssey."

This space is lovely and reminds me greatly of other glass chapels I have presented before: The Wayfarer's Chapel in California (previously here) and The Birch Moss Chapel, also in Japan (previously here).

"Burning (For A New Start)" by Josin

I am so glad I now know of the music of Josin (previously here). A bit of Sigur Ros, a bit of Radiohead, but all her.

This is "Burning (For A New Start)." Stunning, arresting lyrics. And an equally arresting sound...I love how it shifts into another realm at the 3:20 mark. Wow.

We're ashes just beholding the past, falling apart
But we wanted this bitter taste
All, all eyes on what lies upon
Slow motion, I escape your eye
In a next life, I will listen to what you say
All, all eyes on what lies upon
Will I soar towards the core?
Burning
Will I soar?
Why is it turning towards the core?
Burning
Why is it churning?

BEAUTY: Photography--Albarran Cabrera

"The Mouth of Krishna" is a gorgeous photo essay by the Spanish photographer team of Anna Cabrera and Ángel Albarrán.

There is the story of the infant Krishna, wrongly accused of eating a bit of dirt. His mother, Yashoda, coming up to him with a wagging finger scolds him: ‘You shouldn’t eat dirt, you naughty boy.’

‘But I haven’t,’ says the unchallenged lord of all and everything, in spot disguised as a frightened human child.

‘Tut! Tut! Open your mouth,’ orders Yashoda. Krishna does as he is told. He opens his mouth and Yashoda gasps.

She sees in Krisna’s mouth the whole complete entire timeless universe

all the stars

and planets of space

and the distance between them;

all the lands and seas of the earth

and the life in them;

she sees all the days of yesterday and all the days of tomorrow; she sees all ideas and all emotions, all pity and all hope, and the three strands of matter; not a pebble, candle, creature, village or galaxy is missing, including herself and every bit of dirt in its truthful place.

‘My Lord, you can close your mouth,’ she says reverently.

In any part of the universe there is a whole universe –Hamlet saw the infinite space in a nutshell; William Blake saw a world in a grain of sand, a heaven in a wild flower, and eternity in an hour.

"Here Come July" by Scritti Politti 2019

Yep, here comes July...

The incredible Green Gartside and Scritti Politti (previously here): some of the smartest pop music out there.

Here come July
The world is there for me to share
Here come July
It sort of feels so hyper-real

Here come July
To test you all before the fall
Here come July
The end of school, the death of cool

Here come July now
And everybody's burning
My summer's high now
The world has never been so happy in its heart of hearts

Here come July
To sort the men from boys again
Here come July
To melt away the need to say

Here come July now
The heat'll hurt your feelings
It's beautified now
The sun will scorch the pavements of all piety and sin

It doesn't mean nothing, it doesn't mean sh*t
How can I be a part of it?
It doesn't mean nothing, it doesn't mean spit
How can I be a part of it?

It doesn't mean nothing
Some things never do to me

I'll mean the world to you
Maybe I could double all the negatives we know

Here come July
I love it makes it hard to take
So why d'you lie?
To me about the truth will out

Here come July now
And I can't hear your lipgloss
No case to try now
The sun will be on subterfuge, iniquity and you

It doesn't mean nothing, it doesn't mean sh*t
How can I be a part of it?
It doesn't mean nothing, it doesn't mean spit
How can I be a part of it?

Here come July now
Here it comes (woah)
Here we come
I'm gonna crash, gonna burn, gonna watch as the worlds collide
I'm gonna crash, gonna burn, gonna watch as the worlds collide

(It doesn't mean nothing)
Here come July now (it doesn't mean nothing)
Here come July now.
