BEAUTY: Photography--Naohiro Maeda
Hot on the heels of yesterday's post of Dermot Russell's achingly moody photographs of the lonely Tuscan countryside, here is the meditative work of photographer Naohiro Maeda. His series Passages sprang from two large life changes he experienced together: the death of a close friend and moving to the United States. His reaction to both of these disconcerting events was to seek places of solace and comfort and he worked through grief in his art. As he told art website Ignant, "These two strong experiences happened sequentially and created a disconnection I have never felt before. The weather and time of day in my work reflect my transition from sadness to calmness to lightness."
