BEAUTY: Interior Design--Enclos by Jiun Ho

I would love to take a drive up to Sonoma to dine at this subtly beautiful new restaurant called Enclos. It opened only last December of 2024 and has already garnered two Michelin stars! The new space is helmed by Chef Brian Limoges, who has quite a pedigree--he was Sous Chef at then-two starred and now three-starred Atelier Crenn (I just had my birthday dinner there and it was stunning), in addition to working at Quince, Birdsong, and Saison in San Francisco.

The interior design by Jiun Ho is intriguing...an artisanal mix of organic materials with hand-made craftsmanship. And the food looks heavenly too...the exquisite plating is in direct conversation with the interiors.

BEAUTY: Interior Design--Hendricks Churchill

For this 4,000 square foot apartment in a new building in New York City's Carnegie Hill neighborhood, architecture firm Hendricks Churchill took a route that is unexpected. So many of these of these new high-rise apartments are designed in a style that is a little on the minimal side, a little on the neutral side, and, while appointed with well-made and luxurious items, can read a little on the uneventful side. But here, the team furnished the spaces with color, pattern, wood, and an appealing artistic sensibility, mixing contemporary and antique pieces, bringing a delightful sense of life and interest to the entire home.

BEAUTY: Interior Design--Sarah Vaile

This traditional, neo-classical Georgian home in Hinsdale, Illinois designed by interior designer Sarah Vaile is a delight. I love the dedication to pattern and color...it makes an interior interesting, interactive, inviting...hello Granny Smith green lacquered dining room walls! I especially love the photo of Cher, Elton John, and Diana Ross above the fireplace in the wood-paneled Library. Although the plaid-clad Tasting Lounge adjacent to the basement wine cellar is pretty amazing, too.

BEAUTY: Interior Design--Jeff Andrews

Talented interior designer Jeff Andrews created a stunning home for himself and his husband, Emmy-winning casting director Ken Miller. Andrews told California Home and Design, "I care more about this being a home than a showcase...When I design things for other people, I interject my opinion and my aesthetic and my knowledge but I don’t interject my personality. Whereas in creating a home for Ken and I, I had the opportunity to go to a deeper level to make it feel calm but with a certain level of drama that feels comfortable to me."

What I particularly love about his execution of a calm interior is that he achieved his goal without resorting to minimalism. He may have worked within a restrained color palette to create a calm atmosphere, but he celebrated texture and material. I really appreciate his collection of earthy, chunky, artisanal pottery which shows up in every room of the house, along with a wonderful display of abstract art. The result is supremely engaging but not overwhelming.
