"Chernobyl" by GusGus and Bjarki

I am moved by this fascinating song and video for "Chernobyl" by GusGus (previously here) with Bjarki. The visual narrative is touching and the song is like a soundtrack, propelling our heroine along on her painful journey of memory.

I was in Europe the summer of 1986, the summer of Chernobyl. It was my first trip abroad. There had also been some terrorist attacks (back when such things were relatively uncommon) and between these two dangerous events, the tourist turnout that summer was quite low. I recall having a lot of elbow room in England, France, and Italy. I enjoyed relatively uncrowded streets and very short lines, if any, at museums and cathedrals. But there was an advisory against eating any seafood as the radioactive cloud from Chernobyl had drifted over the open ocean and contaminated the marine life...sadly, I was unable to dive into one of Venice's famed Frutti di Mare feasts.

If you were not around then and are not familiar with the details, I highly recommend watching the HBO limited series "Chernobyl." It is a stunning cinematic achievement that captures quite well what went on. The series won a slew of awards including an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

"Stay The Ride" by GusGus

YEEEEEEEEEEES! Steep me in the electronic sound of this new song, "Stay The Ride" by GusGus from their forthcoming release "Mobile Home." Daníel looks gorgeous as usual, Biggi's work is beautifully minimalistic, and they have introduced a new member, Margrét Rán of Icelandic indie-pop band VÖK; her tone and texture are beautiful additions to the GusGus sound. And their costumes are a collaboration with fashion brand Palomo Spain (Alejandro Gómez Palomo), previously here.

"Out of Place" by GusGus

Icelandic electronic group GusGus, formed in 1995 (a quarter of a century ago!) has had up to 10 members in a rotating line-up, but these days the band consists of only two founding members: Biggi and lead singer Daniel Ágúst. Their newest single, the eerie "Out of Place" released this year, has a new touching video. And Daniel still looks so beautiful.

"Airwaves" by Gus Gus

I have been a huge fan of Icelandic dance music/film/art collective Gus Gus (previously here, here, and here) since 1999, when I discovered their seminal release "This Is Normal." I adore their highly original, marvelously textured electronic sound.

And regular readers might recall my obsession with gorgeous, hunky band member Stephan Stephensen, previously here and here.

Here we have equally sexy lead singer, Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson, he of the most transcendent and impossibly smooth and sultry voice, singing "Airwaves" from their last release "Mexico."

BEAUTY: Man--Stephan Stephensen, a.k.a President Bongo

Regular readers know that I have quite a thing for Stephan Stephensen, the Icelandic musician who is one of the core members of Gus Gus. Also known as President Bongo, or sometimes President Penis (I could get used to calling him that), his newest musical project is Gluteus Maximus, a remix/DJ/band with fellow DJ Margeir. Here they are strutting their stuff... and the President has so much to strut. They bill themselves as "the big guns. An arsenal of rotating musical mass." I mean, really, for crying out loud, this man's sheer beauty is gonna kill me someday...

Here is their original song "Everlasting" featuring mellifluous vocals by fellow Icelander Högni Egilsson.

*Sigh* I have such a crush on Stephan Stephensen, one of the core members of the Icelandic music and art collective Gus Gus. He's had long hair, short hair, beards, 'staches... he looks gorgeous and so sexy no matter what.
