The Peacocks of Pitti Uomo, June 2023

Pitti Uomo wrapped up yesterday and the buyers, industry professionals, fashion journalists, and bloggers who attend are often as interestingly dressed (sometimes more so) as the clothing inside the Fortezza da Basso. The courtyard outside provides a perfect spot for watching these peacocks come and go...

While the traditional well-dressed and classically tailored Italian man is still on display (a suit worn with sprezzatura will never go out of style), it seems like we are seeing more and more a casual, eclectic, more Bohemian presentation (silk pajamas? yes please! I once wore  a set of silk pajamas to a night out on the town in Las Vegas many years ago). More references to vintage and American fashion abound, including a bizarre detour into cowboy hat territory. I think it is cute how the Europeans have a very different, naïve take--through the cartoon-y lens of cinema and television--on a cowboy hat, and are unencumbered by the cultural symbology of certain types of socio-economic demographics in the United States.
