BEAUTY: Painting--Simon Edmondson

UK-born ex-pat Simon Edmondson now lives and paints in Spain. His loose style contrasts with the tense subject matter he tends to favor: abandoned and ruined buildings (why are these grand spaces in ruins? where are the people?), and gatherings of men and women caught in the middle of odd rites or arcane actions. The decayed state of these buildings echoes the psychological states of his people. He also seems to be making comments on the hypocritical nature of religion, specifically Catholicism (see the seventh and eighth paintings down, called Sabbath and Confession, respectively).

And once again, I seem to have found an artist, like the last several I have found, who uses images from old black and white snapshots and photos from the past.
