BEAUTY: Clothing--Moncler Gamme Bleu
For Milano Moda Uomo, Thom Browne at Moncler Gamme Bleu showed off a Spring '12 collection inspired by fencing uniforms. I love how Browne forced a suit (with crotch-gathering cups) and a tuxedo through the fencing-uniform-sieve... and the mix that came out the other end is pretty interesting! He even managed to squeeze in the work apron he has been playing with for several seasons.
This collection reminds me a lot of the SS '11 Anne Demeulemeester collection where she took inspiration from fencing clothing as well. When one is dealing with a color palette that is basically white and black, one is forced to make interesting choices in texture and cut to make the pieces stand out. Browne uses his interest and skill in traditional tailoring while Demeulemeester used a much more experimental approach. See for yourself here.
