"In The Blank Space" and "Company" by Josin
I just discovered singer-songwriter Josin and I am smitten. Her music is delicate, tender, trembling, plaintive, but with an undercurrent of urgency, of great import...just how I like my music.

BEAUTY: Interiors--Phillip Thomas
Regular readers may recall I am an interior designer by day, and I love seeing what wild and wonderful schemes my fellow designers come up with. This apartment in Manhattan by Phillip Thomas is marvelous to see for his use of color alone, let alone the delightful de Gournay Deco Monkey wallpaper in that bathroom!
"When my clients and I started working on their first apartment, they said, 'Oh, I think we should do the living room in gray,'" said Thomas. "And I looked at them and said, 'I adore you guys, but you're not gray people. You're full of life, and you need color in your home. That’s who you are.'"
Four years later, the clients hired him again to decorate their new apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side. "Every home is a snapshot into those people’s lives at a specific point in time," said Thomas. "This time, they wanted to amp it up."
I love the tiger ottoman, the indigo bar, the gorgeous mirror-lacquered ceiling in the kitchen breakfast nook, of course the red library...and that great trick of painting just the edge of a door a contrasting color! Brilliant!

Climate Change Anxiety
I debated whether or not to post this piece, but I believe it is important, so here it is. The BBC talked to some people who feel Climate Change Anxiety. I too have been gripped by this anxiety and it was helpful to hear others talk about it.
I found myself, after the last climate change report came out several months ago, feeling an overwhelming despair, not for what was "about" to come or what "might" happen, but for what has already been set in motion and "is" on the way and cannot be changed, according to the climate change report...and everything that is currently happening, the cyclones, the hurricanes, the forest fires (my home state of California had the worst year for forest fires ever), the horrendous flooding in Nebraska. And from this, the displacement of people and their lives (which will create a domestic refugee situation...where are all these people going to go?), the staggering cost of damage to homes and infrastructure from these climate change events. I looked at an on-line interactive map which shows what would happen to my surrounding area here in the Bay Area with various water lines. Even with minimal flooding, say at four or five feet , there are parts on the map that will be permanently flooded. True, four or five feet does not mean that an area will be UNDER water, but it nonetheless makes that area unusable. Not to mention the disruption to utilities that other areas which are not flooded will suffer...disruption and possible destruction of roadways and highways and freeways, water supply lines, electricity lines, and sewer lines. Make no mistake: what's coming is going to be bad. Really bad. For all of us. It's not a sci-fi film. The damage has already been done and is irreversible. It's happening. Right now. Look around.
But we can mitigate it so it is not even worse. We have to keep trying, keep making better and better choices, not just for some Utopian eco-green idea of "the planet" but for our own survival on a very real, visceral level.
I don't have the answers, and while some people and groups do have some answers, no one has them all. It could be that there are no answers. We must simply brace for the storms and floods and fires to come and do the best we can, while attempting to contain the damage that has been done.

The Future of Footwear Is Now
Design studio Ica & Kostika have created amazing 3D printed footwear based on patterns from the natural world. The series of wedges and heels is entitled "Exobiology" and the brand says:
"Fueled by passion, love, beauty, and brought to life by combining art and the highest levels of mathematics, we have forged our heels. disruption is at the core of existence. The Big Bang disrupted time and space, within every one of us there is longing for disruption. This is our way.
Humans have been creators since the dawn of time--it is our very nature--and we want our art to embody our evolutionary story from our past to our future. Fusing the latest in 3D printing and data capturing technologies, we created not just a shoe, but a story of continuity and innovation, and this is our first step."

The Birch Moss Chapel
This has got to be one of the loveliest architectural concepts I have ever seen. Japanese architecture firm Kengo Kuma and Associates built a chapel in the mountain town of Karuizawa, in Japan’s Nagano prefecture out of birch trees, steel, glass, acrylic, and moss. This lyrical, stunning structure is perfectly camouflaged among its surroundings. The architects used the birch trees as pillars and the stone and moss-covered pathway that leads to the chapel continues inside, blurring the line even more. A glass curtain wall and acrylic pews allow only the natural aspects of this special place to be present.

"Visions of Gideon" by Sufjan Stevens
"Visions of Gideon" is taken from the soundtrack of the 2017 film "Call Me By Your Name" by Sufjan Stevens. Sometimes I put this song on and it ends up on repeat for a few hours...
It played while we watched Timothée Chalamet cry, in an agonizing, relentless, near-five minute close-up for the final scene of the film. Such tenderness and heartbreak. Truly stunning. Read my review of the film here.
I have loved you for the last time
Is it a video? Is it a video?
I have touched you for the last time
Is it a video? Is it a video?
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms
Is it a video? Is it a video?
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms
Is it a video? Is it a video?
Is it a video?
I have loved you for the last time
Visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon
And I have kissed you for the last time
Visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms
Is it a video? (Is it a video?) Is it a video? (Is it a video?)
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms
Is it a video? (Is it a video?) Is it a video? (Is it a video?)
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms
Visions of Gideon (visions of Gideon), visions of Gideon (visions of Gideon)
For the love, for laughter, I flew up to your arms

Visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon
Visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon, visions of Gideon
