BEAUTY: Clothing--Bode

Emily Adams Bode just won the CFDA Award for Emerging Designer of the Year and this Spring Summer '20 collection marks her first showing in Paris. Her inspiration came from time she spent researching at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. Why a circus theme? Just feeling kooky? No, endearingly, she has ties to the Barnum & Bailey and the Ringling Brothers Circus as her family ran a workshop based in Cincinnati that produced ornate creations for said circus. The collection was interesting, mixing circus-y stripes (but thankfully, no literal circus motifs) and bright colors with an antique feel, as though some of these patterns might have shown up on circus costumes in the late 1800s or early 1900s. A Chinoiserie sense floated on the edges while models wore flat gymnast slippers, as though they just stepped away from their Chinese tumbling and juggling act...
