BEAUTY: Clothing--Marco de Vincenzo

Pitti Uomo, the twice-a-year menswear trade show that takes place at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy has traditionally been a place where stockists and stores go to find brands and clothing lines. A featured guest designer--an honored chosen position--was added along the way, and now Pitti Uomo features several runway shows. And after being in the industry for 20 years designing for women, Marco de Vincenzo debuted his menswear line for this edition of Pitti Uomo. Because he was not previously a menswear designer, he was not on my radar, until now. And I am very intrigued by his sensibility as seen in this peculiar Spring Summer '20 collection.

What an interesting perspective he has on cut and material. The collection feels both tailored traditional menswear but with equal parts 21st century spirit. Lurex is used as piping on some pieces, entire suits are made from 3D holographic fabric, heavily pleated culottes end up looking like skirts (oh, just wear a skirt already, that's what I say), silk shirts are printed with stars and feathers, and jeans sport a seriously high waist (thus creating a seriously long fly!) and high cuffs. de Vincenzo added humor with sun visors printed with a pair of horn rimmed glasses. This is all just subtly odd enough for me to want to see more...
