BEAUTY: Clothing--Mordecai

While the brand Mordecai might be new, having shown its debut collection at Milano Moda Uomo this week, its founder is decidedly not new. Ludovico Bruno started his career as a knitwear designer for Edward Buchanan before moving to Moncler to work on the Gamme Bleu and Gamme Rouge lines with Thom Browne (!) and Giambattista Valli, and then becoming head designer for Moncler Genius. I think Bruno has some cred, to say the least. So his FW '24-'25 collection shows a certain mastery of approach.

This is, of course, a Fall-Winter collection, so outerwear is prevalent but the silhouettes are fascinating... the boxy and roomy coats and jackets and the loose cut trousers feel Asian and Tibetan, as though this is elevated, forward-looking sherpa-wear. A shearling vest, blankets of wonderfully woven materials carried or worn as shawls and scarves. But those gorgeous stripes...they feel ethnic, but from where? A bit North African, a bit Mexican even, a bit Nepalese.
