BEAUTY: Clothing--MSGM
Proving that inspiration can come from anywhere, MSGM showed a FW '24-'25 collection at Milano Moda Uomo based on...wait for it...the Milano subway system's iconic red handle! And fittingly, the location of the show was at the Porta Venezia station of said Milanese subway.
The system's typography for all signage and the tubular, curved metal handrails were created in 1964 by Franco Albini, a Neo-Rationalist architect, designer and university instructor in design. So Massimo Giorgetti used these elements as well as photographs of trains speeding by platforms as fodder for a clean-lined collection that relied heavily--naturally--on the fire-engine red seen on the handrails. The curved shape on a full-length overcoat set the theme right away, while another model--the 14th image down--carried an actual prototype of the handrail itself!
