BEAUTY: Ceramic Sculpture--Louise Fulton
I am entranced by the incredible ceramic faces by Australian artist Louise Fulton. The variety of glazes, colors, textures, and shapes she employs makes each face so unique.

BEAUTY: Sculpture--Emmanuelle Piquart
I am enchanted with le petit peuple de terre, the Little People of Clay as sculptor and ceramic artist Emmanuelle Piquart calls them. Just look at their lovely innocent faces, all shining and happy. These tiny busts mounted on long metal stands are absolutely charming. There a lot of photos on her website of her atelier in Marseille where she makes other ceramic objects as well as 2D art. I'd love to visit...but more than that, I would love to have some of these sweet innocents gracing my home.

BEAUTY: Projection and Photography--Clément Lesaffre
For his Racines (or Roots) series, French photographer Clément Lesaffre takes wonderful, intimate portrait photos of people's faces and then projects them onto trees at night--often during a full moon--and the results are quite moving, evoking not only the relationship between humans and land or place, but also of the ephemeral nature of humans in the face of the universe...
Here he is at work on one of his pieces, projecting a face onto a rock and taking a long-exposure photo.
And here is his Self Portrait. With eyes closed. Poignant.

"Santiago" by Emma Allen
Face and body painter Emma Allen used her lovely skills to make a fantastic short film that examines the evolution of our species.
"An animated self-portrait exploring the line of human evolution and a projection of a possible future.
As our evolution turns from biological to technological, are we now the bridge between the born and the made.
I painted this stop frame animation on myself using face paint, a mirror and a camera."

In The Mirror, In The Mind
“We always feel younger than we are. I carry inside myself my earlier faces, as a tree contains its rings. The sum of them is me. The mirror sees only my latest face, while I know all my previous ones.”
--Tomas Tranströmer, Swedish poet
