BEAUTY: Ceramics--Hylton Nel
As South African conceptual artist, sculptor, and ceramicist Hylton Nel says of himself, "Been doing this for 50 years." Over that time, he has created a charming body of work but I am most drawn to his pieces featuring script. I love his sculptures and vases, but the plates are special: lovely works of art, but I would like to use them as functional plates as well...

BEAUTY: Painting--Jan De Vliegher
Fancy a quick trip to Europe? Belgian artist Jan De Vliegher creates lushly Impressionistic images of top destinations on the continent and in the UK as well as lovely 18th and 19th century decorative arts: France (Versailles, Sèvres porcelain displays), Italy (Siena, Venice, the Boboli Gardens in Florence, Murano glassware and chandeliers), Austria (Schönbrunn Palace), and England (the vast decorative arts holdings at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London). I love how his technique is gorgeously loose with huge, vigorous brushstrokes but the result, like a true Impressionist, conjures the complete realistic view of that place or object. So beautiful...
Top to bottom: Antinous; Boboli; Cabinet; Chandelier; Cherubs 8; Duomo Siena; Facade Roze; Glass 4; Glass 23; Happy Lovers; Interieur Rood; Marcus Aurelius; Schonbrunn 2; Sèvres Plate With Flowers; Treasury 11; V & A 3; Venus Disarming Cupid; Versailles

BEAUTY: Mixed Media--Glen Martin Taylor
These wonderfully whimsical recycled/upcycled art pieces by painter-artist Glen Martin Taylor speak to mental health issues and challenges...with a leap toward resiliency.
It is easy to see that the artist has a gentle, thoughtful soul from the work but his current project from his website offers even more proof:
"Current Project: I am currently creating works with broken pottery recovered from the destroyed homes and schools of Ukraine for a traveling exhibition (2024-2026) that will begin in the USA and then Europe, ending in Kiev, Ukraine. The purpose of the project involves awareness, fundraising for relief, and international engagement about the human tragedy of the Ukrainian War."

BEAUTY" Mixed Media Art--Marie-Claude Marquis
The arch, post-modern, mixed media art of Marie-Claude Marquis makes me giggle. She works on vintage ceramic plates by embellishing them with pithy conceptual sayings, but also creates original embroidery panels and tapestries.
She also has an Etsy store you can access through her website!

BEAUTY: Ceramics--Julia Pilipchatina
I am in love with these beautiful handmade ceramic plates by artist Julia Pilipchatina. Her technique for making part of the plate look like it is carved from wood creates a magical balance with the matte black and gloss white ceramic and occasional gold line. Stunning.
You can purchase her work from her Etsy store.
